I’ve been thinking about this post for about the last month. It’s so hard to condense my year into a blog post, but I’ll try!
I say this every year, but this year has definitely been one of the most difficult, most rewarding years. I’ve shot some of my favorite photos, I’ve transitioned certain parts of my business and I’ve felt more exhausted that I ever thought possible.
One aspect I don’t share a lot about in my business is the fact that I also work full time. I went back to working full time at the very end of 2018. I would never consider my business a side hustle. I work full time in marketing for a great company, then I come home and work full time in my business. My dad always said “Sometimes, you work so hard you don’t know if you’re sick or tired”. This year, I definitely felt that 100%. I tend to keep the fact that I work full time to myself because I always fear that I won’t be seen as legitimate and I don’t want my clients to fear that they aren’t a priority. I worked so hard this year to deliver all of my galleries within 2-3 weeks, answer emails within 12 hours and I tried so hard to make every single one of my couples feel like they’re my only client. I’ve always been a little bit of a workaholic and the fact that I made it through the last year gave me so much confidence and I’m really a stronger person for it.
In 2019, I shot 17 weddings! I’ve filled up 2 external hard drives, and put about 50,000 miles on my car. I’ve worked with some of the most amazing clients, who quickly became my friends. I’ve met a few great people in the industry that share the same values as me, and who have helped me get through some of the more tough and exhausting times.
Another 2019 accomplishment was this brand new ShowIt website I designed myself! I was working with Wix before and for anyone who works in marketing, you know that Wix and SEO do not go well together. After a lot of hard work, my website is creeping up the organic search results! SEO was one of my focus points this year and with the help of an intern (THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR EVERYTHING ABBY!!!) for about half of the year, I was able to get closer to the top for my keywords!
I started adventuring into being published this year! I was published 3 times, and I have a couple more on the way! One I’m particularly excited about coming to ya’ll in early 2020!
Check out some of my online publications here:
Northeast Ohio Weddings Magazine (The most recent issue, pages 98-99)
I also ventured into off-camera flash, upgraded and added tons of new equipment (no more shooting a whole wedding with a single Canon 5D Mark II, a 50mm 1.8, and a 35mm 1.8), mastered my workflow and consultation process and raised my prices!
Looking back on this year, and going through all of the wedding galleries makes me so emotional. These galleries are so meaningful to these couples and I see so much hard work that has gone into these galleries. All of the blood, sweat and tears have been so worth it. Let me get sappy for just a second. I’ve never been so passionate about my career and these couples are the reason I love what I do. I’ve built a business that I’m so freakin’ proud of thanks to every one of you! Yes you! Reading this blog! Just by clicking my blog, and taking a second to read my rambles, you’re helping my website show up higher in Google. Did you know that? By clicking this link, you told Google that my website has quality content. Thank you for being there for me!
I’ve never been more proud of anything. Thank you for helping me become the business I’ve dreamed of 💕
I have so many business, personal and financial goals for 2020. This year also poses some fun new challenges I’m so excited to take on. Including:
