Over the last few years, I’ve shot in 5 states and many cities. I’ve been able to come up with a list of my favorite places, as well as their pros and cons. I mainly stick to Dayton, because that’s where I shoot the most, but I’ll add in a few of my favorite Lima and Cincinnati locations as well! I hope this list helps you on our next photography adventure!
I do plan to keep adding to this list, so if you don’t see what you’re thinking, keep checking back. If you have a suggestion that’s not on this list, I’m definitely open to ideas!
This location is one that I’m OBSESSED with! I love everything about it. It’s kind of hidden, and not a lot of people know about it (so sharing my secret may not be the best idea 😬) This is a location for an adventurous client. There’s so many places to go here!
Pros: Everything is light colored, which does amazing things for your skin tone, there’s not a lot of other photographers, it doesn’t look like Ohio (meaning we’re getting away from all of that GREEN!)
Cons: Like I said, I freakin’ LOVE this park. The only warnings I have are that if it rained recently, this park does get muddy, so bring extra shoes, just in case! There’s also quite a bit of walking and (if you would like) climbing.
Courthouse Square in Downtown Dayton another option that I love! The architecture is beautiful and this will be a repeated theme throughout my favorite locations, but more light colors!
Pros: Light colors, and amazing architecture. There’s also a lot nearby as well! It’s a nice urban area.
Cons: Parking is a little bit of a struggle, so if you pick this location, I suggest coming early and bringing a couple extra dollars for a meter or paid parking. Also, we just have to make sure there’s no events on your date!
This location isn’t too far from Courthouse Square. The pros and cons are pretty much the same, but I love it anyway! In the summer, they have fountains in the river. I haven’t done pictures here yet, but it’s on my list!
Dayton Art Institute
Once again, AMAZING architecture and light colors! The inside of the building is unbelievable! Also, it’s right beside the Dayton Masonic Center, which is beautiful outside. Both of these locations are also gorgeous wedding venues 😉I also hear the stairs are being fixed! You used to not be able to use them! This could also mean this location isn’t able to be used for a little while.
Pros: Downtown Dayton views make for awesome backgrounds, light colors, urban and park-type backgrounds. There’s usually not a lot of people/photographers here and it’s free outside!
Cons: The only downside to this location is to use the inside of the DAI, you do have to pay a fee, and you can’t go everywhere in the museum, which is totally understandable!
Okay, okay…I complain about green a lot! I know! Ohio just has SO MUCH GREEN! However, Wegerzyn Gardens has so much variety and whoever landscapes this park is a literal artist. It’s so pretty!
Pros: It’s different from most parks. There’s a ton of places to take photos! Every section of this park is completely different from the last. And again, the landscapers do an amazing job.
Cons: There does tend to be a lot of people here when the weather is nice.
This is a pretty common request during the winter, understandably! I have a couple locations I love going to and the owners are some of my favorite people! Depending on the time of year, we can rent extra props?, and during some parts of the year, these amazing owners even have sets ready to use with the season theme! There are extra fees involved with these locations. I’ve included links to their websites so you can learn more about these options! (These locations are also have the best wedding venues 😉)
(Isn’t baby Carter just the cutest ❤️)
This is another location for an adventurous client. This hidden little gem is breathtakingly beautiful! This is in the little town of West Milton, which is a bit north of Englewood.
Pros: This is a unique location! We could spend a lot of time here, and get a wide variety of shots!
Cons: I’m going to have a lot of cons, but that doesn’t mean I’m not dying to go back to this location. It is a bit hard to find. It is a waterfall, so you will get wet. It’s noisy, because again, large waterfall, so I will have to have my assistant yell instructions from me. It’s a bit hard to get in and out of because the stairs aren’t ideal, but its definitely doable!
I love everything about this park! There’s views, light colors, gardens. It’s literally what my dreams are made of.
Pros: Light colors, variety, everything listed above!
Cons: There does tend to be a lot of weddings here, so its definitely a weeknight location!
Downtown Van Wert is really cute! There’s a lot of variety! The Brumback Library is one of my go-to locations in downtown Van Wert. I’ve done photos outside of the library and inside because my bride and groom wanted to do a first look, but it was raining so bad! The library was amazing about it!
Pros: Tons of variety, pretty buildings
Cons: There can be a lot of people around. There might be a lot of walking.
