It’s officially 2019!
2018 was my first full year in business. Since launching in April 2017, It’s transitioned so much! I started out with families and seniors, with the plan to never get into weddings because I thought they were going to be too overwhelming.
I booked my first wedding and everything from planning to photo delivery was magical. In 2017, I photographed 5 weddings. I never second shot, and I never assisted. I just jumped in (I definitely do not recommend this). If anyone knows me, I’m not one to just jump into anything. I spent a ton of time asking for advice and researching to know I was ready.
In 2018, I photographed 18 weddings. That feels like such an accomplishment. I’m so proud of myself! I’ve learned so much. Here’s a few things I’ve learned, as well as changes and announcements in my business:
I did one weekend this year where I had a wedding 2 hours from home on Friday, then I traveled out of state for a wedding on Saturday (3 hours from home, about about an hour from the Friday wedding) then finished off the weekend with an engagement session Sunday on my way back to my parent’s house. I’m choosing not to do double wedding weekends anymore, not only because it took me a week to recover, but because I feel like I’m so tired after my first wedding, that I’m not 100% at the second. I don’t feel like that’s fair to my clients.
Some photographers can do that and I think they’re literally superhero’s, unfortunately, I’m not able to.
I definitely haven’t mastered it but I’m getting better!
